NameAvailability.com helps founders confirm a business name is available everywhere it matters — Secretary of State records, domains, social handles, and trademarks. This page explains who is responsible for that information and how we keep it trustworthy.
Who we are & our independence
NameAvailability.com is a privately owned information platform. We are not affiliated with any Secretary of State, the USPTO, the IRS, or any other government agency. We index official government sources and link directly to them so you can verify everything yourself on the authoritative site.
Our mission is simple: make name availability research fast, honest, and complete. We present domain, social handle, and trademark results as preliminary signals — never as guarantees or legal clearance.
Sourcing policy
We rely on official, primary sources. Statistics come from federal agencies, and every state directory link points to that state's official filing or business-search portal. Our current sources:
- U.S. Census Bureau — Business Formation Statistics — Formation volume, quarterly filings (verified Jun 2026)
- FRED — Business Applications — Year-over-year growth (verified Jun 2026)
- IRS Statistics of Income (SOI) — Entity counts (verified Jun 2026)
- National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) — Office structure (verified Jun 2026)
- USPTO Trademark Search — Federal trademark conflicts (verified Jun 2026)
How we verify
We periodically re-check every official link and re-confirm the figures we publish against their source. Each Secretary of State directory row and each data point on the site carries its own last-verified date so you always know how fresh the information is.
Corrections process
If you find an out-of-date link or an inaccurate figure, email us and we will review it. When we make a correction we update the affected item and refresh its verified date. We would rather fix something quickly than leave a visitor with bad information.
Affiliation & monetization disclosure
We are independent and not affiliated with any government agency. Some outbound links on the site are partner links that may earn us a commission. Official government links — the IRS, the USPTO, and every Secretary of State — are never monetized. Transparency about how we are funded is part of our editorial standard.
